Summer Art Fun with the Mural Arts Program
12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program is the nation’s largest public art program, dedicated to the belief that art ignites change. For over 30 years, Mural Arts has united artists and communities through a collaborative process, rooted in the traditions of mural-making, to create art that transforms public spaces and individual lives.
This summer, Mural Arts commissioned Baltimore-based artists Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn (“Jessie & Katey”) to transform The Oval into a fun and vibrant space called Summer Kaleidoscope. Using bold colors and symmetrical geometric patterns, Jessie & Katey created a full-scale kaleidoscope experience for all to enjoy.
Summer Kaleidoscope goes beyond the painted mural with complementary art activities all summer long like make-your-own kaleidoscopes and pinwheels, origami and other paper crafts, kaleidoscope paint-by-number, chalk art and temporary tattoos that all tie into the artwork! Come join us this summer to engage in geometric-inspired art activities that are fun for anyone of all age ranges and skill levels. Most activities are suitable for youth ages 4-16.
